Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi

On October 4th we celebrate the Feast of Saint Francis, our Founder of the Franciscan Order.

Saint Francis of Assisi (1182 – 1226) is the patron saint of Italy, animals, and ecology. During his life, he astounded and inspired the Church by taking the gospel literally—not in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually following all that Jesus said and did, joyfully, without limit, and without a sense of self-importance.  His efforts to reform Catholicism stemmed from his humble, personal approach based on poverty and peace as tools of God. The spirit of Francis continues to inspire so many in following Christ, in building dialogue among all in truth and charity, and in safeguarding creation.

St. Francis Inspiration

There are many documented stories about St. Francis, famous quotes, poems, and prayers by St. Francis. What is your favorite St. Francis inspiration?  In honor of this great feast day, take time to share with someone you meet today that special St. Francis story, quote, prayer, etc. that inspires you. Who knows your St. Francis inspiration might be just the encouragement someone needs to find peace and love in our Lord, Jesus Christ.

First do what is necessary. Then do what is possible. And before you know it you are doing the impossible.
