Who We Are

Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ!

We are Conventual Franciscans of the
St. Joseph of Cupertino Province
(Serving the Western United States)

We "Strive to follow the humility and poverty of our Lord Jesus Christ"

- St. Francis of Assisi

We are lesser brothers in Jesus Christ who love and serve the Church.

We are men of joy and peace who live and pray together in community.

We are nourished by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and our devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

We the Conventual Franciscan Friars of the St. Joseph of Cupertino Province are members of a worldwide fraternity of Roman Catholic men who follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the spirit of our founder, St. Francis of Assisi. The essential elements of our community witness are a passionate love for God, devotion to Our Lady and the saints, fraternal charity, and liturgical and contemplative prayer.

Named after the patron saint of students and aviators, this province was established on September 23, 1981. We serve in the Dioceses of Monterey, Oakland, and the Archdioceses of Los Angeles. We minister at parishes, hospitals, prisons, schools, in our Vietnam Mission, and more. From time to time, friars of our province minister at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi.

We invite you to learn more about us: our vision, our ministries, our Friends of Francis, and all that we have to offer to the Church of the pacific region. If you are discerning a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life and would like to speak with our vocations director, please follow the link to our Vocations page.

May God give you peace!
